All of our print magazines are printed in the 4-color process. (C=Cyan, M=Magenta, Y=Yellow, K=Black) Color ads that are sent to us need to be based upon the CMYK color model.
The two most common color errors are Pantone® spot colors or use of RGB color. RGB (R=Red, G=Green, B=Blue) color is solely intended for use on-screen, and not in the printing industry. Certain colors, especially neon blues, greens, reds and oranges, cannot be recreated as brightly as they appear on-screen. They will print more dull and lifeless than their on-screen RGB versions.
In Indesign, double clicking on the color swatch will allow you to change the color to CMYK and Process.
In Illustrator, File Menu/Document Color Mode/CMYK. Do not load Pantone PMS color swatches.
In Photoshop, under the Image menu/Mode/CMYK color.
If you have program-specific questions about how to adjust your colors to CMYK, give your Advertising Production Manager a call and they'll arrange for one of our artists to help you.
